Sen. Sabo Nakudu (APC- Jigawa Central) has facilitated the release of 13 inmates from prison in the state.

Mr Adam Muhammad, the spokesman of the state command of the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS), confirmed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Sunday.

He said the inmates were released from three prisons in the state.

The spokesman said seven of the inmates were released from Jahun satellite prison, while five secured freedom from Gwaram satellite prison.

One inmate was also released from Kiyawa satellite prison.

According to him, Nakudu also donated one sack of garri and one sack of groundnut cake to Ringim satellite prison.

The spokesman did not, however, state the amount the senator paid to free the inmates.

Muhammad further told NAN that a philanthropist, Alhaji Umar Bala donated drugs and other items to the Hadejia medium prison.

” Alhaji Umar Bala D.O donated essential drugs, 100 eating plates and cups, bread as well as 100 bags of sachet water,” Muhammad said.

Reacting to the gesture of Nakudu and Bala the state Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association , Mr Baffa Alhassan, described the lawmaker’s intervention as commendable.

Alhassan noted that the gesture would help in decongesting prisons in the state.

He also commended the philanthropist for complementing the Federal Government’s efforts in providing services to the inmates.

“I think other wealthy individuals in the state should emulate this philanthropist by doing all in their power to complement the work of the Federal Government,” he advised.
