Senate Presidency: Northeast Caucus Denies Endorsing Lawan

THE Northeast National Assembly caucus of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement of a senator for the office of Senate President.

The caucus, headed by Senator Danjuma M. Goje, said yesterday that the decision to dissociate itself from reported endorsement of a Northeast senator was reached in a meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.

Some of the resolutions of the caucus include unanimous election of Goje as the leader of the caucus.

“The caucus met in Kaduna Room of Transcorp Hilton Hotel on April 30, this year. Twelve of the 13 members were in attendance and one apology from Ahmed Zana, who was indisposed, but was with us on telephone. He also concurred, which means that he was in unanimity with what we discussed.

“We resolved as follows: That I, Goje, from Gombe Central, was unanimously elected as the leader of the caucus, and Senator Isa Hamamiso as the secretary of the caucus.

“That while the party leadership is considering the zoning of the National Assembly leadership position, the caucus is appealing for the zoning of highest position in the National Assembly to the Northeast considering the special needs of this zone.

“In other words, we resolved to call the leadership of our party to formally zone the highest office of the National Assembly to our zone in view of our special circumstance.
