Security experts and politicians in the country have urged the Federal Government to be transparent in its whistle- blower policy through which huge sums of money have been recovered by anti-graft agencies.

They described the strategy as the best thing to happen to Nigeria and thereby endorsed the President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight. President of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria and a retired military officer, Davidson Akhimien, made the call in Lagos yesterday.

He said the whistle-blower policy had worked everywhere it had been used because it plays straight to the basic human instinct for much gain with less drain.

“The policy is working but in order to gain the confidence of members of the public, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should ensure total transparency. They should not allow too much lull between the time of recovery and disclosure of ownership, as is the case of the Ikoyi apartment recovery.

Also, Managing Director of Security Watch Africa, Patrick Agbambu who spoke with The Guardian from Abuja on telephone, commended government’s move and urged the authorities to desist from being selective in the fight, noting that corruption has become endemic in Nigeria.

His words: “The whistle- blowers’ policy is a good development and a right step in the right direction. The fight against corruption and recovery of the nation’s stolen wealth will not be successful without this policy and its vigorous implementation.”
