Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Wednesday, swore in two new senators, Lawal Gumau representing Bauchi South and Ahmed Baba-Kaita representing Katsina North.

The Senate president administered the oath of office on the new senators at the Wednesday Senate plenary.

Gumau won the Bauchi South senatorial election held on August 11 under the platform of ruling All Progressives Congress.

Gumau who was also a former member of the House of Representatives, polled a total of 119,489 votes to defeat his close rival Ladan Salihu of the opposition People’s Democratic Party who polled 50,256 votes.

The new senator will replace a late senator, Ali Wakili, who died on March 17, 2018.

While Babba-Kaita emerged winner of the Katsina North senatorial election by polling s 224,607 votes, against his elder brother and a retired customs officer, Kabir Babba-Kaita of the PDP who had 59,724 votes.

He replaces a late senator, Mustapha Bukar, who died on April 4.
