THE striking workers in Plateau State yesterday staged a sit-in protest in the state House of Assembly complex preventing the lawmakers from performing their legislative duties.

The workers said the effect of the strike had not had any impact on the lawmakers as if they were not part of the state.

They said the sit-in protest would continue for the next 13 days so that the lawmakers would not be able to hold legislative sessions until they are able to persuade the state Governor, Jonah Jang, to pay them the seven months arrears owed them.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to shut down airports across the country if governors owing salaries to their civil servants do not clear the arrears.

National Vice President of the NLC, Comrade Lucy Offiong stated this in Jos yesterday while supervising the protest of the state chapter of the Congress over non-payment of salaries of workers by the Plateau State Government.

She said such a drastic measure might become imperative to compel governors to pay up.
