Rotarians in Magodo begin tree planting

As debate about climate change rages on with incidents of natural disasters becoming commonplace across the world, Rotary International is championing efforts for earth’s sustenance through planting of trees to save the environment.

The District 9110 Governor, Dr. Adewale Ogunbadejo, stated this during an official visit to the Rotary Club of Magodo Central where he flagged off a tree planting campaign. According to him, the club is determined to champion the fight against degradation of the planet to save mankind from extinction.

“If we pay attention to humanity, but the planet itself goes under, what happens?” he asked. Noting that it is important for mankind to pay attention to the environment, he stated that the club has decided to take the lead by ensuring all Rotarians plants at least one tree in their community.

“If 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide plant trees, it would make a difference. People will start noticing and this would motivate others to follow the same path.”

Receiving the District Governor, president of the Rotary Club of Magodo Central, Rotn. Oluwaolorunlanke Olaleye, who described the visit as a milestone in the club’s history, expressed happiness at the vote of confidence by the governor.

Speaking on the tree planting initiative, Olaleye said it is a burning issue at the highest level of Rotary International. “In view of the tragic events and natural disasters around the world attributed to climate change and global warming, tree planting is now more important than ever before to help save the earth.”
