Restructuring of NNPC ongoing, says Kachikwu
FROM the ashes of the old Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), a new company that would compete with its counterpart in any part of the world would soon emerge, the new Group Managing Director (GMD), Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has assured.
Answering questions from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Kachikwu, who admitted that certain things were not done properly in the past, however, refused to give details, saying: “I don’t want to be seen as being over critical of an institution I have just taken over, please. But having said that, things had been done wrongly and need to be done differently from now. We are doing a lot of work in terms of repositioning, restructuring, getting the right persons in key places and setting a culture of accountability and service delivery so that the new NNPC that you are going to see will be a different institution altogether,” he said.
On how far he was going with the restructuring, he said: “It’s A-to-Z restructuring. I have done the first three layers beginning with Group Executive Directors (GEDs) to Group General Managers (GGMs) and General Managers (GMs) who will take it to the lower layer.
“We are doing a lot of work in terms of repositioning, restructuring, getting the right personnel in key places and setting a culture of accountability and service delivery so that the new NNPC that you are going to see will be a different institution altogether. The idea is to be able to look at your appraisals; how well you have done in the job and if you’ve done very well, how do we elevate you to a position where you can offer more service.
