Gov. Bindo Jibrilla of Adamawa has alerted riverine communities in the state on the need to be on the watch out for possible flooding due to release of water from Lagdo Dam.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday in Yola, Jibrilla said the state government had already gotten a letter from the Cameroonian authorities on plan to release excess water from the dam.

Jibrilla said that he personally toured the flood prone communities on Monday to enlighten the people of the area on the threat.
He said that the state government has commenced media campaign to alert the public on the need to take precautionary measures to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2012 when many lives and properties were lost.

” We have been contacted by the Camerounian authorities over possibility of releasing water from Lagdo Dam.
‘` And we are appealing to our people especially those along River Benue and River Gongola to take precautionary measures,” Jibrillah said.

He said that both federal and state governments were monitoring the situation to avoid being taken unaware.
The governor, who also spoke on his recent visit to Dubai, said that he had talks with investors and one of them was willing to build a 300- bed capacity hospital in Adamawa.

“They are willing to invest about 32 million Euros in Adamawa and one other state.
“What they need is land; we have started discussion and they will soon be here for more discussions and signing of memorandum of understanding”, Jibrilla said.

He said that the company would operate the hospital for 20 years during which they would train Adamawa people and finally hand over the hospital to the state.
