Policeman killed, teenager abducted in Katsina State

Suspected armed robbers on Wednesday evening shot and killed a policeman in Katsina State. Also, unknown gunmen yesterday kidnapped a 14-year-old girl, daughter of one Salisu Mai-Tiles in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina.

Suspected armed robbers on Wednesday evening shot and killed a policeman in Katsina State. Also, unknown gunmen yesterday kidnapped a 14-year-old girl, daughter of one Salisu Mai-Tiles in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina.

Speaking on the issue, Mai-Tiles said three armed men invaded his residence at Sabuwar-Abuja quarters in Kankia around 1:30a.m. He said one of the men, after entering his residence, began asking for money, while the remaining ones stayed outside.

“They asked me to give them money, which I did. Whatever they asked we never objected to their demand to save our lives.”

He, however, lamented that despite obliging to their demands, they still went away with his teenage daughter. He also said the gunmen also blocked the Katsina-Kano road inside the town and robbed passengers at gunpoint.

In a related development, gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers have shot and killed a policeman in the state. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening around 7:00p.m. happened while the policeman was on duty guarding a popular shopping mall.

The policeman had left his home at 6:00p.m. and had reported at his duty post an hour later, when the incident occurred. It was learnt that the armed robbers invaded the popular shopping mall and carted away goods and an undisclosed amount of money.

When contacted, the spokesman of the police command in the state, DSP Gambo Isah, said he would get back on the matter. Isah was, however, yet to respond at the time of filing this report.
