Police recover N2.7m alleged bribe from ACP

A report by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the force has disclosed that an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has refunded about N2.7 million he collected as bribe.

Also, the 324 cases out of a total of 405 complaints made against the police by members of the public between July 1 and September 30, 2016 has been resolved.

This is contained in the third quarter report of the CRU released by the Officer-in-Charge, Abayomi Shogunle, an acting ACP.

He said the money was recovered from the officer following a petition lodged by a complainant, with the assistance of operatives of the police X-Squad detailed to work with the unit.

Shogunle said disciplinary action has commenced against the officer involved, as the case has been transferred to the Police Service Commission (PSC).

According to the report: “Record shows that the sum of N2.7 million bribe was recovered from an assistant commissioner of police serving in one of the state commands after a complaint was made to the CRU through a telephone call.
