Police promote Magu, others

IGP Transfers Kwara CP, Announces Replacement
The Police Service Commission (PSC), yesterday, promoted 18 senior officers to the next ranks, including Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

According to a statement by PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, Magu, who was a Deputy Commissioner of Police, was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

In a related development, there were reports yesterday that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the immediate transfer of the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Lawan Ado, and appointed Idris named Aminu Pai Saleh as his replacement.

A source close to the state Police Command in Ilorin said Ado had been redeployed to Police College, Kaduna as Commandant.‎

According to Ani, the PSC, at its 27th Plenary Meeting in Abuja, yesterday, presided over by is Chairman, Mr. Mike Mbama Okiro, a retired Inspector General of the Police, approved the promotion of 18 senior officers, including Oshodi-Glover, in charge of Zone 11, Osogbo, (DIG); Ghazzali Mohammed, Commissioner of Police, Administration, DLS, Force Headquarters and Peace Ibekwe Abdallah, former Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command and currently, CP, Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Headquarters Mohammed, Peace Ibekwe Abdallah (AIGs), Magu, Ebere C. Onyeagoro, Administration, Kaduna State Command and Moshood O. Gbolarumi, DCP Maritime, Lagos (CPs).

Other promotions approved by the Commission include one Assistant Commissioner of Police to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nine Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police, one Deputy Superintendent of Police to Superintendent of Police, one Assistant Superintendent of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police and one Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Okiro, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, urged them to rededicate themselves to the service of their fatherland, assuring them that the Commission would continue to pay attention to their basic entitlements, including regular promotions.

The redeployment of the office in Kwara might not be unconnected with the recent robbery of five banks in Offa.

But a source said insisted that‎ the transfers were routine and had nothing to do with the handling of the robbery.

The new CP was expected to resume duty yesterday.
