Police kill three suspected kidnappers in Delta
THE crusade against the macabre business of kidnapping for a handsome ransom in the oil rich but impoverished Niger Delta region of the country has recorded some degree of success in Delta State as the police shot dead three suspected kidnappers.
Delta State Police Spokesperson Celestina Kalu explained that a group of hoodlums were intercepted by the Orerokpe Division patrol team while driving a Toyota Corolla saloon car marked BWR 532 HL on September 11.
Kalu said on sighting the policemen, the occupants turned in a suspicious manner but were subsequently pursued by the patrol men to Oghara Road, Agbarho where an exchange of gunfire ensued.
She said that with the assistance of vigilante men, three of the hoodlums were fatally wounded while others escaped with bullet wounds while and their vehicle was taken to the station.
According to her, preliminary inquiry revealed that the bandits had earlier kidnapped one Mrs. Paaga Blessing Emabari, 48, at Okuokoko in Okpe Local Council.
Kalu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said that the kidnapped victim, however, miraculously escaped from the grips of the hoodlums before their encounter with the patrol team.
She added that investigation is in progress while determined efforts are being made by the police to track down the fleeing criminals.
