The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Zanna Ibrahim has cautioned armed youths of Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities to either lay down their arms or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

Ibrahim gave the warning at the weekend amid renewed hostilities between the two communities during which a mobile policeman and other persons were injured. He wondered why the people fail to appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of the state government and security agents towards restoring peace to the warring communities.
The CP also warned that the command would henceforth not condone any attacks on security personnel and law-abiding citizens of the areas.

Meanwhile, two weeks after mobile policemen were deployed to Abraka from Oghara and Asaba to check Fulani herdsmen killings in the area, the officers are yet to find a place to sleep.

Men of the Mobile unit from Asaba arrived the Abraka Police Division on May 12, 2017, while another squad from Oghara arrived the town the following day but since then, the officers had been stranded without a place of rest.

They have, therefore, resorted to sleeping in their patrol vans and anywhere the night catches up with them. But in a swift reaction, Ibrahim told newsmen that the accommodation problem was being looked into.

Also, two weeks after suspected Fulani herdsmen ambushed a police patrol van in Abraka, which led to the death of a police Inspector and three other officers still recuperating in the hospital from injuries, the herdsmen may have struck again as the corpse of one Joseph Ikuoku was found with multiple machete cuts close to the River Ethiope.

The deceased, a native of Arhagba-Orogun who was resident at Urhuoka was said to have gone for night fishing on Sunday but never returned. When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Andrew Aniamaka said he was not in position to speak on the matter.

However, a police source confirmed that it was a case of armed robbery attack, adding that the robbers stole his motorcycle and stabbed him in the neck.In a related development, the crisis rocking the palace of Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North council area may soon be over as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5, Benin City, Abubaka Adamu Mohammed has charged the warring factions to either embrace peace or be prosecuted.

Mohammed’s intervention followed a petition by the family imploring him to intervene on the matter, as they had no confidence in the Delta State
Police Command.
