Still angered by the killing of a Police Inspector, Jamaiz Hussain, by a three-man armed robbery gang at Item branch of Diamond Bank, Owerri, the Imo State capital at the weekend, the Commissioner of Police, Chris Okey Ezike, has ordered an intense manhunt for the robbers, who killed the orderly attached to a Chinese, and allegedly carted away N10 million.

The said amount was said to have been stacked in two big bags, popularly referred to as ‘Ghana Must Go’.Ezike told The Guardian that he had dispatched a crack team of his men to all parts of the 27 local councils in the state and adjoining areas, with the mandate to apprehend the culprits and bring them to book.

The bandits, who security sources claimed to have trailed the Chinese (a contractor in the state), to the bank, watched him withdraw N10 million, before they accosted him at the bank’s exit point. They shot his orderly, killing him instantly, but left the Chinese with bullets on his leg. The driver was also left unhurt.

Eyewitness said the orderly had resisted the firepower of the bandits before they swooped on him, emptying many bullets into his body, until his killers saw him dead. A police source said the expatriate is currently recuperating in a yet-to-be disclosed hospital.

It would be recalled that about three weeks ago, armed robbers chased and killed a young man who withdrew huge sums of money from a Guaranty Trust Bank, located at Ikenegbu Layout, Owerri, dispossessing him of the money after dragging him out of a vehicle he had jumped into during the hot chase. The incident took place in front of another bank (Skye), along Wethdral Road, Owerri.

Before the aforementioned incident, armed hoodlums had attempted to snatch huge sums of money from a customer of Zenith Bank, located along Wethdral Road. But the brave efforts of policemen saved the situation.
