Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday said only registered herdsmen that would be allowed to operate as part of measures to check the frequent clashes between farmers and herders in Oyo State.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday said only registered herdsmen that would be allowed to operate as part of measures to check the frequent clashes between farmers and herders in Oyo State.

During a peace meeting in Ibadan, the governor promised to beef up security statewide. He, however, decried the recent attacks in some communities of the state and the death of a police officer in the process.

Ajimobi declared that henceforth, only registered members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria that would be allowed to operate in the state. He vowed that the protection of lives and property remains the main focus of his administration. His words: “All the herdsmen must work closely with their presidents and chairmen. We must know them with their heads. If possible, we must register them and their cows.

“The role of the government is the protection and enhancement of the people. All of us must participate in the security process. “I am therefore saying that all these bodies that we set up will be meeting twice in a month because of the urgency of their work.

“Then all of us will be meeting every month. We must fortify our security. We must know all the herdsmen and their leadership, all of them must be under Miyetti Allah and they must be registered. We shall use task force, Operation Burst.“We don’t need to establish another task force, we will use them. I am saying that we are going to use Operation Burst to tackle this menace.

“ We are all the same, forget about Fulani or Yoruba. So, I am appealing to you be peaceful.”The farmers were led by the chairman of Agbekoya, Alhaji Azeez, while the state chapter of Myetti Allah was led to the meeting by Alhaji Yaqub Bello.Bello, however, dismissed the notion that all Fulani were criminals, saying his only son married from that race and his in-laws are good people. The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, assured the people of better security.
