Ondo varsity graduates 50 first classes, confers honourary degrees on Okorocha, others

Akintade donates faculty building to UNIMED
The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) has produced 9,812 at its joint convocation for the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 academic sessions.

Its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, disclosed this at a press conference in Akure to herald the seventh convocation ceremony, adding that the university radio, Radio AAUA 90.3 FM would also be commissioned.

Ajibefun, who is witnessing the second convocation ceremony, noted that it was a nine-day event, as 7,786 and 2,026 for the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 sessions respectively would be released.

“Of the 7,624 that earned first degrees in the 2014/2015 session, 29 graduated with First Class Honours, 1,316 bagged Second Class Upper Division, 5,183 earned Second Class Lower Division, 1,027 had Third Class Honours while 69 got Pass.

“In the postgraduate category, 16 bagged Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D); 128 earned Masters degree while 18 had Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE.)

“Of the 2,026 that graduated in the 2015/2016 session, 21 earned First Class, 609 graduated in Second Class Upper Division, 1,151 received Second Class Lower Division, 239 got Third Class while six had Pass,” he said.

He stated that two major events are slated for the Grand Finale and eight day, on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 9:00am, which included the commissioning of the campus radio.

An entrepreneur, Kesington Adebutu, who has supported the university, shall be conferred with the Doctor of Business Finance (Honoris Causa), while Julius Ajibulu, will be conferred with the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).

Also, the Imo State Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha, will be conferred with Doctor of Letters (D. Litt.) Honoris Causa.

Meanwhile, the Saworo of Ondo Kingdom, Chief Isaac Akintade, has donated a Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences building to the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) to boost medical tourism in the country.

He stated this while commissioning the building to commemorate the second Founder’s Day of the institution, saying it was borne out of the desire to contribute to UNIMED’s infrastructural development.

Akintade, who is the immediate past chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, lamented Nigerians’ high rate of medical tourism abroad despite the country’s huge human resources and capacity.

He expressed optimism that the health facilities and medical personnel available in the country, if given the needed attention, could reduce the rate of medical treatments abroad.
