Ondo State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget has unveiled a three-year Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

The commissioner in charge of the ministry, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan, disclosed this yesterday at a consultative meeting in Akure.

He said the agenda, which is expected to run from 2019 to 2021, was initiated to ensure transparency and inclusiveness in governance.

Representatives of organised private sectors, trade associations and professional bodies attended the meeting.

Igbasan said the meeting was to open up the anticipated inflow and outflow of state resources to relevant stakeholders to engender allocation of resources for optimum benefits of the citizenry.

He explained that since the government signed the Fiscal Responsibility Bill into law in 2017, there had been a radical departure from incremental budgeting system to the multi-year framework.

The commissioner said the Rotimi Akeredolu-led administration has realised that budget is not what government intends to do for the people, but rather what the people want government to do for them.

He said: “Today’s programme has been designed to seek your inputs and opinion on the fiscal policy of the state in our bid to ensure a prosperous Ondo State.

“We need your feedback on what we have done, or doing and what you feel we should do to expand the fiscal space of the state, create wealth for the people and reverse the trend of huge infrastructural deficit. This would ensure a better and brighter future for the next generation.”
