OLX, LASTMA offer tips on vehicle safety during rainy season
With the rainy season at a resurgence after the August break, OLX, an eCommerce platform, in partnership with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is educating the public on some precautions to take to ensure safety when driving during this wet season.
General Manager, LASTMA, Olawale Musa, advised road users to drive slowly. “Limit your speed to a maximum of 60km/h or even less. Driving slowly prevents the car from being damaged by hidden potholes. Road users should also use their hazard lights to alert other road users who have poor visibility.”
Musa advised drivers on the need to have their car battery checked. According to him, the lifespan of a battery is between three and five years. “Wet weather can stress the battery, and humidity can cause terminal corrosion that can drain it overnight. A good indicator that the battery is weak is when it starts to sound sluggish during start up.”
On tyres being in good condition, he said: “Ensure that all tyres including the spare are properly inflated due to the slippery roads. A fuel tank that is nearly empty could result in condensation forming on the inside walls of the fuel tank. Fluctuating temperatures can result in water getting inside the tank.”
He added, “if you feel your car is not rainy season-compliant, sell your old car on the OLX site using an OLX Champ and search for great deals on the site to buy exclusive offers on verified cars.”
