Olu Of Warri urges completion of Ogidigben gas project, others

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, yesterday urged the Federal Government to complete the abandoned Gas Revolution Industrial Park at Ogidigben, Delta state.

The monarch spoke at Ode-Itsekiri, also called Big Warri, during his second coronation anniversary.

The Olu said the Ogidigben industrial park was a high profile project that could transform the area and also create thousands of jobs for the people.

He added that he and the Olu-in-Council had made relentless efforts to the Federal Government to resuscitate the project, but to no avail.

The monarch expressed concern about the Warri-Ode-Itsekiri road, which the state government had also abandoned, adding that its completion would have boosted trade in the area.

He disclosed that he had discussed the project’s completion with the then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, who assured him that it was on the Federal Government’s priority list.

According to him, Osinbajo believed that the revolution industrial park would open up the area by utilising the associated gas to create jobs.

The monarch explained that he had also taken up other important projects with the Federal Government, including the dredging of the Escravos Bar, as well as the revamping of the Warri and Koko ports.

Other projects he cited include the completion of the Koko-Ogheye road, the Ogheye Deep Sea Port, the Omadino-Escravos Highway, which is being done by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the state government.

The Olu drew government attention to the erosion control and shoreline protection at Ugborodo and Ogheye axis, and the completion of deserted electrification projects in some communities in his kingdom.

He urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to speed up work on the Warri-Ode Itsekiri road, adding that the concrete props and pillars for interconnecting the bridges from Ode-Itsekiri to Ajigba, Usele, Orugbo, were already in place.
