Okpara varsity, tax board interact on payment
FOR prompt payment of taxes and as due, the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUA), Umudike in Abia State held a forum for its management and other members of staff to educate them on the modalities of tax computation.
Addressing the workers yesterday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hilary Odo Edeoga, said the forum became imperative following the workers’ inadequate knowledge of tax computation, as many did not agree with the deductions from their salaries.
Reminding them that payment of taxes remains a statutory obligation of all taxable persons, he urged them to approach the appropriate authorities over their tax computation and even find out how they could compute same on their own.
Also speaking, the MOUA Bursar, Ukachi Eluwa, noted that some deductions were below the provisions of the relevant law on the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) assessment tariff format, which applies to all universities.
