Okowa charges citizenry on better Nigeria
GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has said that though the assets declaration by President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was good, Nigerians should rather be more concerned about the business of moving Nigeria forward by holding the President to his campaign promises.
Speaking yesterday in Benin City, Okowa, who perhaps may be alluding to the fuss the exercise had generated, said despite the huge debt burden his administration inherited, government had put in place measures to bring respite to the people by restructuring its expenditure. He called on the citizens to fervently pray to God to heal Nigeria of all the challenges bedevilling it, just as he urged Nigerians to desist from insulting leaders.
“Asset declaration is personal. The man has declared his asset which is a welcome idea. But his personal wealth and all he has at the moment is not supposed to be the business of Nigerians. The only thing that we should be concerned about is what is going to be his output in government. That is what we should concentrate on.”
