Oil partners invest N8.4bn on scholarships, donates lab
The Star Deepwater Petroleum Limited has revealed that over N8.4bn has been invested in its Agbami Medical and Engineering Professional Scholarships (AMEPS) in the country.
The Director, Star Deepwater Petroleum Limited, Mr. Richard Kennedy, disclosed this at the handover of a science laboratory to Government Secondary School, Shendam, Plateau State, worth millions of naira.
Represented by Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs Department, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Michael Kabi, Kennedy said the donation represented Agbami parties’ commitment to supporting government’s efforts in improving quality of education in Nigeria.
According to Kennedy, the laboratory will hugely impact on the students, as it will provide the teachers and students with up-to-date science laboratory equipment for easy teaching and learning.
He said: “Social investment intervention by the Agbami parties in education and health is spread throughout Nigeria. Agbami Medical and Engineering Professional Scholarship (AMEPS) is aimed at building students’ capacity in Medical and Engineering courses in all the states, as a strategic feed into the national talent pool.
“From inception in 2009, over 16,000 students have benefitted from AMEPS, with 456 beneficiaries graduating with first class.”
