Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have described as

“unguided and insensitive” the comments credited to President Muhammadu Buhari over the killings in Plateau State.

In a statement yesterday, Ohanaeze described the comparison of the killings in the state to those of Zamfara as most unfortunate, stressing that no human life was greater than the other, and that two wrongs do not make a right.

The organisation expressed the fear that from the trend of events, it would appear that retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma’s outcry that there was a grand design by some people to carry out an ethnic cleansing in the country had been justified.

It called on the government to allay the fears of Nigerians by bringing to book those behind the attacks.

Also in a statement by its leader, Uchenna Madu, MASSOB queried the motive behind the condolence visit of the president to Plateau, insisting that such visits in the past did not address the security challenges of the country.

Blaming Buhari for the rising insecurity in the land, the movement said it was disheartening that members of the Miyetti Allah could openly admit killing people and yet nothing was done by the Federal Government.

Madu said: “They have openly vowed and threatened with the backing of their sponsors and patrons, which include religious, traditional and opinion leaders, that they will continue to dominate and terrorise all perceived enemies.

“They have also insisted that President Buhari must continue as the leader of Nigeria because he is their own, implementing the religious instructions of
Othman Dan Fodio.”

MASSOB charged Christians in Plateau State and the entire Middle Belt region to discountenance the president’s condolence message “because he hypocritically exempted his Islamic foot soldiers from the gruesome murders of followers of Jesus Christ. He claimed in his presidential reaction that it was what he termed as a number of geographical and economic factors that are contributing to the longstanding herdsmen/farmers clashes.”

It alleged: “We have seen the hypocritical handwriting which was as a result of the secret and deceitful pact/agreement reached by the Hausa Fulani representing Arewa, and the Yoruba representing Oduduwa, against the people of old eastern region on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
