Monarchs and lawmakers from Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State have apologised to the Deputy Governor, Ude Chukwu over an unpleasant statement made against him during a reception for his principal.

Chairman of the Organising Committee and the state Commissioner for Justice, Umeh Kalu had during the reception held in honour of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu
said Ohafia clan was due to produce the next deputy governor.

The area comprises Ohafia, Abriba and Nkporo, where the deputy governor hails from.

But, Kalu said all the top positions due to Ohafia in the state, including the deputy governor slot; speaker of the state House of Assembly and federal lawmakers had been taken over by Nkporo people.

The representatives, who visited the deputy governor in his office, said they were embarrassed by the address presented by Kalu, which implied that the governor should not pick Chukwu as his running mate in the 2019 elections.

Kalu’s position had reportedly infuriated some people at the event, who dissociated themselves from the argument.

The leader of the legislative council in the area, Onwuka Ifegwu Iroh, told the deputy governor that Kalu’s statement did not truly reflect the position of the clan.
