The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has said that the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has contributed immensely in keeping Nigeria peaceful, united and evenly developed.

Abubakar spoke in Sokoto on Sunday when he received the Batch ”A” Corps members deployed to the state and who were currently undergoing the three-week orientation.

“The scheme has, indeed, lived above board and proved all its critics wrong. It has really being worthwhile.

“The scheme has given these energetic youths and highly educated youths opportunity to contribute their own quota to national development,’’ he said.

The sultan, specifically, extolled the invaluable contributions of the scheme in the areas of education, health, infrastructural development and the entrenchment of sterling democratic tenets in the country.

He urged the corps members to continue to be patient, patriotic and resilient in the face of several challenges facing the nation.

Abubakar promised to continue to render the needed support to ensure the success of the scheme at all levels.

The state NYSC Coordinator, Mr Thomas Yamma, told the sultan that the visit was aimed at paying royal respect to him.

“We are here to show our appreciation for the sustained support we have been receiving from the sultan and the entire Sultanate Council of Sokoto, Sokoto State government, and the people of the state,’’ Yamma said.
