NUJ commends Oshiomhole, two others for supporting journalists

The South-South zone of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has commended the governors of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, and his Delta and Bayelsa States counterparts, Ifeanyi Okowa and Seriake Dickson, for supporting journalists practicing in their states.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the zonal meeting held in Yenagoa, and signed by the Zonal Vice President, Eddy Ogude and Zonal Secretary, Okpaka Dokubo, the union commended Oshiomhole for the financial assistance of N15 million, given to seven members of the union, who were involved in the ghastly motor accident involving his convoy in 2012.

For Okowa, NUJ commended him for his commitment to the completion of the Delta Council Secretariat and approval of Weigh-in Allowance for State Information Officers in his state.

The union further commended Dickson, for his commitment towards the growth of the Bayelsa Council of the NUJ, including his decision to help the council in checking the menace of flooding in secretariat.

The communiqué also expressed satisfaction at the relative peace and steady development, in the various councils in the zone, and admonished the leadership and members, to maintain unity and oneness.

“The zone called on journalists in the six states in the south-south geo-political zone, to exhibit the highest level of professionalism in the conduct of their job and avoid sensationalism, particularly in the use of the social media platforms.

“The zone bemoaned the spate of politically- motivated killings in Rivers State and across the country and called for maturity on the part of politicians in the settling of all political differences.”

In a related development the zone congratulated veteran journalist Ibim Seminitari, on her appointment as the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and wished her success in her new position.

The zone commiserated with the people, government of Delta State and the Ibru family, on the death of the first civilian governor of Delta State, Felix Ovodoroye Ibru, who passed on recently.”
