Telecoms operator, nTel has announced plans to expand its operations beyond Lagos to 20 states of the country including Abuja and Port Harcourt.

It said this would be achieved within the next 18 months beginning from April this year.

To reach maximum effect, nTel would partner 9Mobile and MTN on national roaming, which would see it leverage on their infrastructure for the planned expansion.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Ernest Akinola, who disclosed this in Lagos at the weekend, said the company has increased its subscriber base from 60,000 in October 2017 to 120,000 as at February this year.

Akinola told journalists that the firm’s bid was to leverage on national roaming scheme to expand its network.

He pointed out that the company was working with two major operators in an arrangement that would allow its customers to make calls in locations where 9Mobile and MTN have coverage.

“We have carried out a proof of consent with 9Mobile and this process was supervised by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). We are at the final stage of discussions on pricing.

“We expect to launch the initiative next month. The NCC also has approved our plan to ride on the MTN network. The MTN’s is expected to go live before the end of second quarter of this year.

“Our company is preparing to roll out the national roaming services on exiting 2G and 3G networks of the two companies while customers will also have access to our 4G LTE network,” he stated.
