Notorious suspected robber arrested in A’Ibom

HandcuffNotorious armed robbery suspect, Mr. Udo Felix, from Abak Local Council of Akwa Ibom State, ran out of luck, when combined efforts of police and vigilance group of the area led to his arrest.

This kingpin was said to be the mastermind behind the incessant kidnappings, car thefts and breaking into homes to dispossess victims of their property in Nsit Ubium Local Council of the state.

It would be recalled that Nsit Ubium is one of the local councils in the state noted for kidnapping of children in churches, snatching of cars, even in the church too.

Recently, two suspected car snatchers went to one of the churches in the area and dispossessed the pastor of his Sport Utility vehicle (SUV), but luck ran out of them when they were arrested by policemen on patrol.

Handing over the armed robber to the outgoing Police Commissioner of the state, Mr. Gabriel Achong, at the Command headquarters in Ikot
Akpanabia, the Transition Committee Chairman of the Nsit-Ubium Local Council, Mr. Oto Edemidiong, commended members of the group and the police whose synergy led to the arrest of the criminal.

He disclosed that the gang, which operates from Cross River to Akwa Ibom State, had a few weeks ago, successfully dispossessed their victims of several vehicles, the most recent of which was a pastor of the church whose car was snatched at a gun-point.

According to the chairman, his administration was committed to protecting the lives and property of the citizenry and would continue to fight crime to its barest minimum, lamenting that, the council was notorious for criminal activities in the past especially in kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He vowed to ensure that residents carry out their lawful duties without any fear of molestation.

Other members of the syndicate, it was gathered, were still at large and were being trailed by the police.

Earlier, the state Police Commissioner, Gabriel Achong, who retired at the weekend, commended the efforts of the chairman.

He called on all residents to always provide useful information to the police in order to track down criminals in the state.

He reiterated his earlier calls in support of community policing and the formation of vigilance groups, noting that such would always lead to easy tracking down of criminals who live among the people in the communities.

Achong called on the people of the state to give his successor the same support he enjoyed while serving in the state, especially by volunteering information to the police.
