NOA charges Nigerians on national values, patriotism

UNODC urges ethical revolution 

DIRECTOR-GENERAL of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri has charged Nigerians to make it a point of duty to study, understand and consciously practise the seven core values of the nation as enshrined in the nation’s constitution.

Omeri gave this charge at Focal Points Training on Professional Ethics and Accountability Mechanism organized in Lagos by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in partnership with NOA under the European Union (EU) funded “Support to Anti-corruption in Nigeria,” project.

The NOA chief noted that the National Core Values which include Discipline, Integrity, Dignity of Labour, Social Justice, Religious Tolerance, Self-reliance and Patriotism cut across all ethnic, religious and professional divides, hence he challenged all Nigerians to buy into these values.

Lending his voice, Project Officer of UNODC Abuja, Mr. Jesse Wachanga challenged Nigerians to internalize the spirit of the letters of the National Anthem, which reflects the values, and aspirations of the nation.

He called for an ethical revolution in Africa, starting with Nigeria in order to create a better socio-economic future for the continent. Alluding to Africa’s rich heritage, he admonished Nigerians and the rest of the continent to re-invent and re-imbibe its communality and other cultural identities and apply them to the present-day realities of modernity rather than entirely forsaking the positive aspects of our heritage.
