The Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the sacking of 600 council workers by the state government.

The Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the sacking of 600 council workers by the state government.

The Chairman, Mrs. Bosede Daramola, told The Guardian yesterday in Akure that the union would vehemently resist the action.

According to her, the affected civil servants attached to various traditional rulers were tactically relieved of their appointments when their names were removed from the remittal system.

She said the union learnt about the issue after the payment of May salaries, which excluded the said category of workers.

It was leant that the affected workers were captured in the remittal payment system during the administration of the immediate past governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

Under the arrangement, eight workers were slated for each first-class monarch, six for second-class, while others had two workers across the 18 local council areas of the state.

The chairman said the sacking was contrary to the agreement that the union reached with the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

“It is unacceptable for government to sack them and expose them to the previous system where they were paid indiscriminately by the respective monarchs,” she said.
