Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Annie Okonkwo from Anambra Central has called on security agencies to draw up new strategy that will address the security challenge in the Eastern part of the the country in anticipation of annual mass return home by Igbos during the yuletide. Senator Okonkwo made this call while receiving a delegation of eminent Igbo indigenes resident in FCT who paid him a visit recently.

He said the Igbo are deprived of the unique joy that homecoming during Christmass and New Year offer because of multiple threats to life experienced on the road, adding that the bonding which these festivities offer his people often translate to developmental initiatives in the region.

He reasoned that if nothing is done urgently to re-assure them of their security, a severe setback would have been afflicted on them without intent.

He therefore called on the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, the governors of the states within the zone as the chief security officers in their states and others to rise to the challenge.

In a related development, the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) gubernatorial candidate in the state, Iyom Uche Lilian Ekwunife has promised the indigenes of positive change in the state.

Speaking at Anambra State University during an interactive forum, she assured the audience of total departure from the past where aspirants feel that the people’s votes do not count.

She challenged the students to partner with her to restore value to votes.
