No room for election riggers in Oyo, Adesina warns
Unlike in the past elections when hoodlums and party supporters perpetrated all kinds of electoral malpractices, he warned that the AC would apply the ‘mosaic law’ in the forthcoming elections.
He said: “In Oyo State, enough is enough. There must be a change. Eight years of misrule by the PDP must come to an end. They change governments peacefully in other countries. This time around, there must be a change. Oyo State will not be the same after 2011. Those planning to rig 2011 elections will meet their waterloo or even sudden death. There will not be chance to use thugs. This time around, we will use the mosaic law in Oyo State. It’s going to be an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. We are ready to sacrifice our lives so that our children and children’s children would not remain in bondage.”
Adesina spoke during the declaration of intent by Saheed Akinade-Fijabi for the Ibadan South West/North West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He expressed the party’s readiness to guard its votes in the forthcoming election even as he used the occasion to restate the call on President Goodluck Jonathan to implement the Justice Muhammadu Uwais report on electoral reform.
The former Oyo State governor noted that the conduct of a free and fair poll could only be guaranteed if the Federal Government embarks on electoral reform.
Adesina also announced plans by the AC to screen its candidates ahead of the forthcoming polls to ensure that only those with credible credentials are allowed to contest.
Based on this, he said the AC has concluded plans to screen the educational certificates of all aspirants to ensure that only credible candidates emerge.
“We are now in the age of Internet. So, if anybody comes forward to furnish us with the certificate of any institution either in Nigeria or outside the country, we shall call them immediately to ascertain the authenticity of such certificates.
“There will be no room for fake or Toronto certificates as it exists in other political parties. As a disciplined party, we will close our doors against aspirants with unscreened certificates.”
