Group warns against removal of Jega, shift in general elections

A GROUP, Osun Progressive Left, has cautioned against further any plan to tinker with the rescheduled March 28 and April 11 general elections 

      The group also warned the Federal Government not to remove the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, {INEC}, Professor Attahiru Jega, saying Nigerians would resist such move.

      The group said it has been watching development and the kite being flown for the removal of Jega by the presidency and its Peoples Democratic Party ally with keen interest warning that the plot by the duo could spell danger for the nation’s democracy

    At a forum held yesterday at Ola Oni Centre Osogbo,Osun state  led by its Convener, Comrades Wale Adebisi and Waheed Lawal, the group said card reader should be used during the election in order to increase the confidence of Nigerians in the electoral process.

        According to the group tampering with the electoral process and timetable is an indication that President Jonathan has something up his sleeves about the much-awaited election stressing that Nigerians would not fold their arms and watch democracy to be toyed with buy alleged power hungry people.

   “We are going to resist any attempt by Jonathan’s government to embark on any form of military Interim arrangement, because the handing over date of May 29th should stand as democracy day” , the group said

    The group however called on Nigerians to join hands and ensure the March and April elections hold as scheduled

     “We call on Nigerians from various ethnic groups to unite, organise and resist any attempt by anybody to mobilise them for violence and anarchy.

  “We are appealing to the Nigerian working people, artisans, peasants, students and youths to resist anybody that may want to induce them with money to cause any form of violence or crisis in the country.

   Speaking on the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards {PVC} the group urged eligible people who registered to go and collect their voter’s card adding that doing so would enable them vote for candidates of their choice on the day of the election.
