AGBAJE AMBODE•Fashola Flays Agbaje Over Comments On Education Funding

FORMER governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and immediate past Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro, Saturday urged voters to disregard propaganda and smear campaigns and vote for President Jonathan in the presidential election and also Mr. Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Lagos State governorship election.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, told a mammoth gathering of supporters in Ikorodu, Lagos State, that the PDP and its candidate lacks whatever it takes to move Lagos forward.

Ambode posited that Lagos is too sophisticated for Agbaje to rule. “Therefore, the people of Lagos should vote for continuity, which the APC is ready to provide,” he said.

Also speaking at the APC rally in Ikorodu, Governor Babatunde Fashola faulted the statement credited to Agbaje, who claimed that the state spends only three percent of its budget on education.

He said: “I have maintained that you should not vote for someone with inexperience. The PDP governorship candidate in Lagos is a pharmacist that does not know anything about the running of government. Anytime he speaks, he shows his ignorance. He says that this government spends only three per cent of the state budget on education. I’m surprised at his ignorance because in my last budget presentation, the budget for education was increased from 15 per cent to 16 per cent. He should get his facts right.”

Speaking at a campaign rally organised by Obanikoro in support of Agbaje’s candidacy at GRA, Ikeja, Daniel and Obanokoro enjoined Lagosians to vote for the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Agbaje.

According to Daniel, “Irrespective of the terrorism issue in Nigeria, Jonathan remains the secret of peace and stability in the country. We thank God that Jonathan has successfully and almost completed his first term. It will be unjust not to allow him go for second term.”

While he commended former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his contribution to the emergence of Jonathan as president, Daniel noted that the former president should do more by ensuring that the second term of Jonathan is made possible in the February election.

To the PDP supporters in Lagos, Daniel said that it is in their interest and that of the people to vote out the ruling APC next month.

Obanikoro said that a lot of mudslinging and misrepresentation have been made of the Jonathan’s administration.

“The change the APC is selling is backward change. That is why we are putting all energy to ensure victory for Jonathan and Agbaje in Lagos. The best thing that can happen in Lagos is to have Jonathan and Agbaje at the centre and in Lagos.”
