Firm hosts female undergraduates to mark South African Women’s Day

TO mark South African Women’s Day in Lagos, the South African Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, in partnership with C&I Leasing Plc. organised a Take a Girl Student to Work project for female undergraduates in tertiary institutions in Lagos.

The female undergraduates were picked from different tertiary institutions in the South West and were given one-day job experience at C&I Leasing corporate head office in Lagos.

The event was part of the yearly social corporate investment scheme and a constructive way of positively contributing to the global efforts to address challenges faced by young women, particularly African women and “the girl child.”

The Take a Girl Student to Work project was conceived as a day when young female students from institutions of learning from Nigeria are exposed to the reality of the workplace to facilitate themselves with working experience, environment and culture.

This year’s celebration in Lagos saw about seven female final-year undergraduates from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Covenant University and Babcock University resume work at C&I Leasing with the workers of the company and were put through the company’s routine operation.

The Manager, Human Resource of C&I Leasing Plc, Mr. Emmanuel Timothy said the objective “is not only to visit but also to interact with professionals in their fields of work, to give the learner hands-on experience in a work environment and to expose her to different career options available in the market place.”

Speaking on their experiences, Omowunmi Akande, a final-year undergraduate of International Relations from Covenant University and Atinuke Ayowole, who reads International Law and Diplomacy at Babcock University commended the South African Embassy, Lagos and C&I Leasing for initiating the scheme .
