nigeria,,1-CopyWITH less than 24 hours to the 55th Independence anniversary of the nation, leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ogbonaya Onu, has expressed optimism that Nigeria would, in no distant time, be counted among the great nations of the world.

Speaking during the 2015 Igbo Day celebration gala night of Ohanaeze Ndigbo (FCT) chapter in Abuja, he enjoined Nigerians to close ranks and work towards the country’s growth.

Stressing the fact that the much-sought goal of national unity and cohesion would not be achieved, if Nigerians are in disarray, he noted that with the culture of good governance and orderliness being entrenched since the inception of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, Nigeria would definitely overcome the teething problems that had bedevilled it over the years.

Onu, who was governor of old Abia State, also urged Ndigbo to not only love one another, but work for the peace and prosperity of the country saying: “Our dear country will soon be 55 years old as an independent nation and more than 101 years as a country. We must continue to work for Nigeria’s greatness. We should always remember that when a people bond together in the pursuit of a common goal, they will eventually overcome. We should be our brothers’ keeper, for there is always strength in unity.

“We should look back at yesterday and learn from the lessons of our journey so far and resolve to engage tomorrow for better prospects. We have the men. We have the women. We have the human and material resources to enable us build a great nation.

“In this long and beautiful journey, we should renew faith in ourselves and absolute trust in God. “Onye Kwe Chiya Ekwe”. We must resolve to love one another and together affirm that we shall succeed.

Self-confidence is the manure that nourishes achievement. I believe that if we resolve to pursue our manifest destiny, as one people bound together in strength and purpose, Nigeria’s greatness would be achieved.

“I am confident that Ndigbo will help renew Nigeria. We cannot achieve this if we are not united.
