NEPC, others train women, youths on branding
To end rejection of Nigerian goods for export due to non-compliance with international market standards, some women and youths in Cross River have been trained on food processing and packaging for export.
Speaking at the three-day training organised by Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Executive Director, NEPC, Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, said the training was put together to address issue of poor packaging and branding of goods meant for export rejected at the international market.
Awolowo, represented by Mrs. Veronica Oriere, said most of the products that passed through Cameroon border at Ikom Local Government of Cross River were not recorded because they were unbranded or packaged for exporting, which amounted to smuggling.
The South-south Regional Coordinator, Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Mrs. Azuka Ikejiofor said the choice of the theme of the training: ‘Food Processing, Packaging and Labeling for Export’ could not have come at a better time, considering the embarrassing rate at which Nigeria’s non-oil products suffer rejection.
