The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the withheld 2017 June/July Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results of Kano state candidates.

The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the withheld 2017 June/July Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results of Kano state candidates.

After the national Examination body announced the release of its June/ July 2017 results, over 70,000 candidates who wrote the examination in public schools were denied access to the result portal on NECO website, a development, which had generated apprehension and uncertainty.

The Guardian learnt that NECO’s action was necessitated by the Kano State government’s indebtedness of over N600 million in registration fees of its candidates.

Although a government source did not deny the fact the state government owed NECO, he insisted that government was making efforts to resolve the issue.

Speaking with The Guardian, Director of Press at the Deputy Governor’s office, Prof. Hafizu Abubakar, who is also the Commissioner for Education, Usman Bello, said NECO had released all the results it earlier withheld.

However, Usman could not ascertain the amount paid to NECO before the results were released, but he insisted that government had at a meeting on Monday reached an agreement with the examination body.

“All I know was that government officials were at Minna on Monday to dialogue with NECO and an agreement was reached.

“I can’t tell you whether money was paid or how much was paid. All I can say is that NECO has released our candidates’ results,” Usman said.

But information at the NECO office revealed that the state government made a part payment on Monday with a commitment to pay the balance as soon as possible.
