NCC Summons MTN Over Caller Ring-Back Tone

THE Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) has summoned the Chief Executive of MTN Nigeria, Mr Michael Ikpoki, to the commission headquarters on September 28, to clarify allegations of violation of copyright in the musical works of an artiste, Omenuwoma Okson Dovie, also known as Baba2O10.

mtnTHE Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) has summoned the Chief Executive of MTN Nigeria, Mr Michael Ikpoki, to the commission headquarters on September 28, to clarify allegations of violation of copyright in the musical works of an artiste, Omenuwoma Okson Dovie, also known as Baba2O10.

Dovie alleged that MTN used his music as caller ring-back tones with out due permission. The commission, in the letter of invitation, noted that the agency is vested with the powers to administer and regulate copyright as stipulated under the Copyright Act Cap C28 Laws of the Federation of
2004.

The invitation, according to the regulator, is also in pursuant to section 34 and 38 (5) of the NCC Act.
