Nasarawa to demolish illegal structures

GOVERNOR Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has said the state government would demolish illegal structures erected on government land anywhere in the state and especially in Karu Local Government Area.

Al-Makura, who said this at Koroduma, Karu, near Abuja during a visit to the area, added that more than 20 hectares of government land located near Koroduma Police Station had been encroached by private developers.

He warned that the state government would no longer tolerate the illegal act, adding that the government would take necessary measures to recover its property.

“This administration stands for diligence, discipline and order and will no longer tolerate any untoward attitude from people,” Al-Makura said.

He said the state government would investigate and unearth land racketeering syndicate in the area, adding that any government official found wanting would be sanctioned.

Al-Makura directed property developers in the area to verify their land document with the government.

Former commissioner for Lands in the state, Mr. Sunny Agassi, who was on the governor’s entourage, urged the state government to introduce measures to save its property in the area.

Also, Gov Al Makura donated N20 million to traders to facilitate the completion of the new ‘Orange’ market in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area. Al-Makura announced the donation while inspecting public facilities at the market.

He noted that the traders at the orange market did the construction of the market through communal efforts.

The governor recalled that when the state government began the exercise to decongest the Abuja – Keffi highway, it (government) muted the idea of relocating the market.

He stated that the traders then expressed their desire to construct another market for which they acquired a piece of land some metres away from the road.

The governor commended the traders for the initiative and praised the efforts and financial commitment they had put in to make their dream a reality, directing the contractor to complete the job within one month.
