NANS denies role in planned protest against NAFDAC
NATIONAL Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has denied plan to protest against the leadership of the National Agency for Foods, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) over the ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the activities of the Agency.
The President of NANS, Tijani Usman Sheu, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Lagos. He said that, “some unscrupulous elements attempted to drag the association into the invitation of the Director General of NAFDAC by the EFCC.”
He noted that NANS supports the anti-graft agency in its effort and anti-corruption activities, but that this should be devoid of bias or undue politicisation in order not to destroy the international reputation Nigeria has enjoyed globally through the achievements of NAFDAC.
According to him, “we wish to state that at no time did NANS contemplate or decide to protest against neither NAFDAC nor its leadership. We, therefore, wish to call on all Nigerian students to desist from being used as tools in the hands of these fifth columnists as this may be another opportunity for the unsuspecting members of the public to accuse Nigerian students of being tools in the hands of these selfish elements.
“We hereby use this medium to completely dissociate NANS from any purported protest or campaign of calumny against Dr. Paul Orhi and NAFDAC.”
