THE National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) over the weekend released the results of the May/June 2015 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations across the 1,590 centres nationwide.

Briefing newsmen at the NABTEB Headquarters in Benin City, Edo state, the agency’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Dr. Olatunde Aworanti, said a total of 76,821 candidates enrolled for the examinations nationwide while 75,468 candidates actually sat it.

According to him, 15,848 candidates (21 per cent) were for engineering trades, 6,849 (9.08 per cent for construction trades, 1,710 candidates (2.27 per cent) for miscellaneous trades and 16,818 candidates (22.2 per cent) for business.

Aworanti disclosed that 40,821 candidates (54.09 per cent) had five credits and above, English Language and Mathematics inclusive, while 53,016 candidates (70.25 per cent) had five credits and above with or without English and mathematics.

However, he regretted that no fewer than 1,435 candidates were involved examination malpractice and related offences, while lamenting the poor enrollment for the exam, which he attributed to the lukewarm attitude of Nigerians towards Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET).

He urged aggressive sensitisation of the various stakeholders in TVET on the need to provide the enabling teaching/learning environment in technical/commercial colleges, and on the usefulness of TVET to the nation’s manpower development.
