Mobile court convicts 43 traffic offenders, frees 13 others in Delta

A mobile court sitting in Agbor , Delta State yesterday convicted 43 persons for violating traffic laws and other related acts.

It however discharged 13 others for lack of evidence, The court also sentenced one person to two months in prison for violating
traffic law along the expressway.

According to the Agbor Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Anthony Metta , the 43 were convicted for dangerous driving with worm out tyres during the command’sroutine check along Asaba-Lagos road.

The zonal commander, told journalists that the FRSC is determined to curb frequent road accidents and will not tolerate road users using expired and worm out tyres, adding that most crashes were often tied to use of such tyres by motorists.

On heavy duty trucks, Metta said emission from exhaust pipes of heavy duty truck, portends serious offence, adding that it constitutes serious risk to road users and warned that operatives of the FRSC would soon embark on the arrest of the drivers.

His words: “The road safety corps has been educating those with such vehicles to find solution to the emission problem before plying the road as we will soon embark on their arrest”.

On the recent court ruling against booking of traffic offenders, Metta said that the court judgment was in line with their duty, adding
that the agency had been enforcing the rules and not making rules for itself.

The FRSC zonal boss said speed- limit devices which will take effect by October 2016 are also expected to reduce traffic crashes and save lives that would have been lost through over-speeding.
