The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, yesterday, expressed delight over successful kidney transplant by the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, Abia State, reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the hospital.

He affirmed that the feat would afford patients the opportunity to get treated in Nigeria and save them from going abroad.

The minister said: “I am always happy to visit this hospital and I am more than impressed with its breakthrough.”

He visited the two kidney donors and recipients at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was introduced to the transplant medical team.

The minister commissioned the hospital’s Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (TB) Ward, where he urged the workers to operate with caution given the infectious nature of the disease.

The minister, who was received on arrival by FMC Medical Director, Dr Chuku, said the Federal Government’s 2017 accelerated TB control programme was still extant.
