The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said indigenous professionals and firms would henceforth be used in the design and execution of projects involving national security.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said indigenous professionals and firms would henceforth be used in the design and execution of projects involving national security.

He gave the assurance yesterday in Enugu at the launch of the Presidential Executive Order No. 5 in the South East, adding that the document had given indigenous firms the opportunity to participate in national development through direct involvement in contracts execution.

Signed by President Muhammadu Buhari on February 2, 2018, the order is for planning and execution of projects as well as promotion of local content in contracts, science, engineering and technology.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Bitrus Nabasu, the minister stated that a Nigerian firm would no longer be disqualified from the execution of contracts on the basis of years of incorporation provided the firm possesses the requisite expertise.
