Military extends curfew in Maiduguri to 9:00 p.m.

THE military in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said it had extended the curfew hours by 30 minutes following twin-bomb blasts that claimed the lives of a soldier and a woman at the Gomari Airport roundabout.

The now curfew hours of 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily takes immediate effect until the security situation improves for any further review by the military and other security agencies in the state.

A statement yesterday in Maiduguri by the Spokesman of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col. Tukur Ismail Gusau, said the curfew has been reviewed to 9:00 p.m. and should be adhered strictly to protect people’s lives and property.

It reads: “As a result of the unfortunate incidence of Tuesday night in Maiduguri town, it is imperative to call on the residents to comply strictly with the curfew period from 9:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. Any movement within the curfew period will not be tolerated. All security agencies have been directed to ensure maximum compliance.”
