Midnight fire destroys 10 shops, valuables in Ondo

The inferno, which started in the middle of Monday night and destroyed properties that worth millions of naira, was reportedly traceable to power surge in one of the shops in the shopping complex.

The Guardian gathered that the outbreak also destroyed other shops and valuable property, and no fewer than 10 shops were completely razed by
the fire.

Narrating his experience, a security man attached to a first generation bank in Ikare-Akoko noted that the fire was first noticed through a smoke oozing out of one of the shops and his colleagues
worked tirelessly to put it under control.

The razed shops were stocked with combustibles such as: substantial cash, expensive textile materials, computer sets and accessories, whose worths are invaluable.

Mrs Mary Olaniyan, one of the victims of the fire accident, lamented her ordeals and disclosed in pains that her life savings and investments have been completely gutted by the unforseen disaster.

Olaniyan, while urging the state government, philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to assist the victims of the fire incident, also called for an investigation into the fire disaster.

A leader in the area, John Fatola noted that Ikare Akoko Community needed fervent prayers to ward off evil machinations in the ancient town as he counted in series the calamities that befell the ancient town this year.

According to him, the town had witnessed various calamities in the recent past especially the bloody bank robbery which claimed about 25 lives in the community.

He said the development has brought untold hardship to its residents and consequently, economic activities were on zero level because of the repeated attacks.
