A middle-aged man with undisclosed identity was found lifeless beside a primary school in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday.

The Guardian gathered that the identity or family of the deceased, whose body was found hanging on a tree in Ayeye Street in Ondo, is unknown to the people in the neighbourhood.

A source revealed that the deceased was not a resident of the community and that residents had begun a search for his relatives, adding that the matter has been reported at a police station in the area.

“Residents just woke up on Saturday morning to see the lifeless body of a man hanging on a tree, his pair of slippers was seen there while his phone was intermittently ringing inside his pocket but no one could remove it.”

According to a police report by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, the police was yet to commence investigation on the incident due to some constraints by the people and their tradition.

“The community asked us not to do anything about the incident because according to them, there are some rituals that have to be performed before anybody can do anything about it. So that is why we are watching them.”

It was also learnt that the police have arrested some residents of the area over the incident, a development Joseph denied, saying since the community discouraged investigation, “we have stayed off and there was nobody arrested.”
