Michael and Cecilia Ibru University inaugurates governing council
As the first set of students prepare to resume this September the Michael and Cecilia University, Agbarha-Otor, Delta state , has inaugurated its governing council which will be saddled with the task of developing ideas that will push the bounds of the university to rank with its peers. It is the highest decision making body of the institution founded by the Michael and Cecilia Ibru Foundation.
The council will be chaired by JoopBerkhout, a renowned biographer who had written biographies of some Nigerian presidents including Olusegun Obasanjo’s. Other members of the council include Dr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Ibru, Prof. Samuel Whrudjakpo EbohIboje, Prof. Johnson Ekpere, Prof. Christopher Orubu, Prof. Anthony A. Kila, and Dr. John Richard Iyasere.
Others include Dr. Daniel D. Whawo, Dr. Isaiah KwayaOrhuma, Amb. Aisha Audu-Emeje, Ms. Onatejiro EdesiriIbru, Edward Sido Jnr, Prof. Uvietobore AruotureIgun and Andrew Johnson Okwudei.
The council, according to Dr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Ibru parades some of the best brains from within and outside Nigeria, stressing that the university was founded to bring back home the high level of standard found in similar institutions abroad.
The mission of the council has been carefully chosen and every member of the council is relevant in the educational sector and they would ensure that they push the university to get to the height envisaged,” she said.
Speaking shortly after accepting the honour to chair the council, Berkhout, a Dutch who has spent about 50 years in Nigeria, said Nigeria is the most popular country in Africa. He said all over the world no one talks of Africa without mentioning Nigeria.
He added that the governing council would be fully involved in running the university and would do its best to assist the university. He also said that Nigeria was seeking change stressing that in whatever position one found himself he must do the utmost best to add to the change.
