IT was a week-long event of leadership trainings and symposiums that climaxed to an evening of elegance, awe and sophistication at Orchid Hotel in Asaba, Delta state as Lion Patricia Udeme took the call of service at her investiture ceremony celebrating her new status as the first female District Governor of District 404 A1.

Outpourings of goodwill wishes echoed the reception hall as Lion Udeme’s long list of achievements were cited while being handed over the bell and medallion which signified her as the new District Governor by the out-going District governor, Sir Laitan Onoloja, who described her as a role model to other members and said he had no doubt that she would steer the club to greater achievements and heights.

In her investiture speech, Udeme promised to brighten the service of Lionism in Nigeria with dignity, harmony and humanity. “It’s exactly 18 years ago I joined the International Lions Club and this one of the best decisions I have ever made. In my pursuit of happiness, philanthropy has given me the best kind of satisfaction and that is what I will continue to live up to.

The Chief of Staff to the Delta State government, Hon. Tams Brisbe, in his remarks affirmed that their daughter, Mrs. Udeme, will do the club proud during her service year. He, however, emphasized that the government could not always do everything so was thus happy when organizations such as this filled in the gaps while promising that the government will always support the club in their projects.

Donations were made by the chairman of the occasion Chief Ayirimi Emami, the Akulagba of Warri, who donated the sum of N10 million to the club’s activities while the husband of the district governor, Chief S.U Udeme, gifted the club with an hectare of land among other handsome donations.
